About Us

Purpose

The intent of the Williams Liberal Arts Law Journal is to explore how the intersection of law and social science could provide unique perspectives around topical issues. The art of scholarly writing is promoted throughout all aspects of a Williams Education and it is no different within the WLJ. Its multi-disciplined nature and focus on original research encourages students to interrogate areas outside of conventional scholarship.  It is with this fusion of a multi-faceted approach to academics – one that merges politics with all subjects like music, history, biology or technology – and a strong writing tradition that led to the creation of the Williams Liberal Arts Law Journal (WLJ). The WLJ seeks to maintain the Williams tradition of consistent and rigorous output.

Founding

The Williams Liberal Arts Journal was founded and established in September 2023 by Williams Students as a way to bring students interested in law and/or journalism together.

Williams College has a strong history of producing students deeply engaged in the law. Williams students and faculty remain committed to understanding the nuances of jurisprudence. The Williams Liberal Arts Journal is only the most recent fruition of Williams' dedication to the study of law, it comes as a counterpart to the many student-led organizations on campus like the Moot Court/Mock trial teams, and Law Association and also as a successor to the former Williams Law Journal.

Our Process

The Williams Law Journal is completely student ran and driven. Any student, of any year, is welcome to come to our meetings and propose ideas for a piece or volunteer as an editor. Select pieces are then compiled to form a Journal around the beginning of each semester, Fall, Winter, and Spring. We also seek to create a forum for students, professors, and others in the Williams community to exchange law-related ideas, opinions, and news here on this site.
